Scott is a lifelong conservative Republican who knows that freedom isn’t free. He has experienced first-hand the commitment and sacrifice of the men and women who wear the American uniform to defend our nation.
Scott was a Naval Aviator in the U.S. Navy. During his 26-year career – 14 years on active duty and 12 years in the reserves – Scott flew jets from the decks of 13 aircraft carriers. He was deployed to the Mediterranean, the Persian Gulf and the North Atlantic. He participated in combat operations in the Gulf, Bosnia and Kosovo. After 9/11, Scott was recalled to active duty with the U.S. Central Command.
Having owned and operated a small business in Lakeland for the past 20 years, Scott knows the meaning of private enterprise. He knows what it takes to meet payroll, and he knows how government bureaucracy can stand in the way of innovation, economic growth and American prosperity.
Scott is a Christian who considers family values of utmost importance. He and his wife of nearly 31 years, Amy, have three adult children: Amanda, Will and Sarah. The family is active in First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, where they have been members for 22 years and Scott is an elder.
Scott is dedicated to his community. He has served on several organizations that support his hometown of Lakeland. Scott is serving his first term in Congress. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee, including the Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations and the Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies, and Information Systems. Scott also serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, including the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, and the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.
